Roy and Laura Johnston Foster Care over 200 Dogs for Dogs Trust West Calder

  • Submitted by: Sue Webber, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 29 July 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13957

That the Parliament congratulates Roy and Laura Johnston, from Livingston, on welcoming over 200 dogs into their home since they became foster carers for Dogs Trust West Calder in 2016; understands that their journey began with a single foster dog, a Shih Tzu called Poppy, which sparked their passion and dedication for volunteering to care for dogs in need; further understands that, for some dogs, kennel life is not best suited to their needs, and so the work that Dogs Trust foster carers play is immense in looking after them within their own home, and that by providing socialisation, basic training and unconditional love, their efforts not only transform the lives of the dogs that they foster but also enrich the lives of the families who adopt them; notes that, since the Johnstons have been volunteering for Dogs Trust, the committed dog lovers have also adopted five dogs from the charity, with their current furry family consisting of two Shih Tzus, a dachshund, and a French bulldog; commends Roy and Laura for what it sees as their tireless efforts, and hopes that their story serves as an inspiration to others who may be considering opening their home to a foster dog.
