  • Submitted by: Collette Stevenson, East Kilbride, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 07 August 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13913.1
  • Current status: Fallen

As an amendment to motion S6M-13913 in the name of Paul O'Kane (Tackling Child Poverty), leave out "as soon as the financial circumstances allow." and insert "immediately; considers that the country cannot afford child poverty and that a commitment to remove the two-child cap should be announced as a matter of urgency ahead of the upcoming UK Budget; understands that the Child Poverty Action Group estimates that families in Scotland have lost £341 million as a result of the two-child limit since 2017, while the Institute for Fiscal Studies estimates that 360,000 children could be lifted out of poverty across the UK if it was abolished this year, and commends the Scottish Government's interventions to date, which it understands are preventing an estimated 100,000 children from falling into relative poverty in 2024-25."
