  • Motion reference: S6M-13911

That the Parliament congratulates Stranraer Development Trust on organising its 2014 Oyster Festival, which will be the biggest since this annual celebration of local foods, and, especially Stranraer’s famous Loch Ryan Oysters, first took place in 2017; understands that the 2024 programme features the BBC chefs, Tony Singh and Cyrus Todiwala, and STV Hot Wok stars Julie Lin and Jimmy Lee, who will be joined in the festival demo kitchen by Pam Bunton, of the Michelin green-starred restaurant, Inver; believes that Loch Ryan’s native oyster beds are widely considered an ecological treasure and some of the most important in Europe and, in light of this, notes that ecosystem and community regeneration feature strongly among this year’s themes; welcomes the return of the Scottish Shucking Championship, and the additional highlights of a light procession on the loch, fireworks and the local historian, Elaine Barton, showing how extreme pond dipping can give people of every age and ability an opportunity to see and handle the creatures living at the bottom of the loch, and wishes everyone involved in organising, starring in, or simply enjoying, the festival, which is scheduled to tale place from 13 to 15 September, a wonderful time, with many more festivals to come.
