Sma Shot Day

  • Submitted by: George Adam, Paisley, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 03 July 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13839

That the Parliament welcomes the annual Sma Shot Day parade in Paisley on 6 July 2024; recognises what it sees as the importance of the day in Paisley’s town calendar, which lies in a historic dispute between local weavers and manufacturers; understands that the Sma Shot was a fine yarn woven into Paisley shawls, which was unseen by buyers and unpaid to local weavers who fought long and hard for their work to be recognised; further understands that, in 1856, payment was finally agreed for the Sma Shot, and from then on the first Saturday in July became Sma Shot Day, and wishes the people of Paisley well on this important day in the town’s calendar.
