Celebrating the Scottish Wildlife Trust's 60th Anniversary

That the Parliament congratulates the Scottish Wildlife Trust on its 60th anniversary; welcomes the launch of a nature writing competition, Words of the Wild, to mark its 60th birthday; acknowledges what it sees as the trust's significant contributions to nature conservation and biodiversity in Scotland since its establishment in 1964; notes that the trust manages over 100 wildlife reserves across Scotland, providing vital habitats for numerous species and preserving Scotland's natural heritage; recognises the trust’s role in leading initiatives such as the Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels project, which aims to protect this iconic species from the threat of grey squirrels, and in the legal reintroduction of Eurasian beavers in Scotland; appreciates the trust's efforts in helping to achieve government commitments outlined in the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and international commitments of the Global Biodiversity Framework; notes the trust's advocacy for a sustainable, biodiverse future for Scotland's land and seas; understands that the trust also works to improve people's connection with nature through projects such as Nextdoor Nature and Wildlife Watch, engaging communities in wildlife conservation and fostering environmental stewardship; highlights the trust's Young Leaders programme, which empowers young people to be actively involved in nature recovery and conservation efforts, and acknowledges the dedication of the trust’s volunteers, who contribute significantly to habitat restoration, species monitoring and public engagement.
