  • Submitted by: Emma Roddick, Highlands and Islands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 02 July 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13831

That this Parliament congratulates Shetland on being named as the largest mussel producer in Scotland; understands that production in Scotland for the year 2023 reached record levels, with figures from the Scottish Shellfish Farm Production Survey showing that Scotland produced 10,300 tonnes of farmed common mussels, with Shetland producing more than 80% of the total; notes what it sees as the importance of mussel production in Shetland, which, it understands, has been valued at around £9.7 million for 2023, and recognises what it sees as the significance of the shellfish industry for communities in Shetland, with 58 full-time staff said to be involved.
