  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 02 July 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13826

That the Parliament congratulates Harray Young Farmers Club in Orkney on being crowned National Club of the Year 2024 by the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs; notes that the club, based in the West Mainland of Orkney, was founded 82 years ago and currently has over 70 active members; further notes that 30 members of the club travelled from Orkney to the 2024 Royal Highland Show to take part in the final competition, making them the furthest-travelled participants; understands that judges were particularly impressed by the club’s efforts to connect and contribute with the local community, including through volunteering with local care homes and charities and helping out at local farms; commends the presentation team, Campbell Ridland, Lily Hay, and Elsa McIntosh, for their fantastic efforts, and for speaking passionately on behalf of their club and their fellow members; recognises the runners up, West Renfrewshire Young Farmers Club and Forss Young Farmers Club from Caithness, for their achievements, and offers best wishes to all of Scotland’s Young Farmers Clubs for the future.
