  • Date lodged: Monday, 24 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13762

That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow Warriors on what it sees as its momentous victory in the United Rugby Championship (URC) final after the Scottish side roared back from a 13-0 deficit to claim a historic 21-16 win over the Bulls at the Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria, South Africa, on 22 June 2024; notes that tries from Scott Cummings, George Turner and Huw Jones were all converted by George Horne to earn the title; understands that this is the Warriors’ first win on South African soil since 2018, and that it was watched by 50,000 supporters in the stadium and millions worldwide who saw it on television; recognises the remarkable contribution of all the players in a thrilling contest; notes that this latest success adds to the Scotstoun club’s 2015 victory, and wishes the coach, Franco Smith, and players of Glasgow Warriors continued success as it sets the benchmark for other British rugby teams to follow.
