That the Parliament congratulates St Paul’s High School in Pollok and Smithycroft Secondary School in Riddrie on receiving sportscotland Gold School Sports Awards; understands that the sportscotland School Sport Award, funded by the National Lottery, is a national initiative designed to encourage schools to place young people at the centre of decision-making, planning and implementation of extra-curricular school sport; recognises that the awards encourage schools to improve and celebrate successful school sport models and encourage sporting links with communities surrounding schools; notes that there are currently 15 Gold School Sport Awards winners in Glasgow; understands that Gold Awards specifically recognise where a school has put sport at the heart of its planning, practice and ethos and has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to increase opportunities for young people and engagement in physical education, school sport and leadership; commends both schools for recognising the importance of sport for young people and the associated benefits for physical and mental health, wellbeing and confidence, and wishes both schools, their staff and pupils all the best for the future.
