  • Motion reference: S6M-13741

That the Parliament congratulates former Stirling headteacher, Elaine Wyllie MBE, for receiving the Lifetime Achievement award at the Pride of Scotland Awards 2024 as a result of her Daily Mile initiative; commends the work that she has done to inspire children around the world with the Daily Mile initiative, which was started by Elaine in 2012 at St Ninian’s Primary School in Stirling; notes that the Daily Mile is a health initiative that involves classes heading outside to run, walk or wheel around their school grounds for 15 minutes every day, and understands that, due to its success, has now spread to more than five million children in 20,000 schools in 96 countries; acknowledges that there are numerous studies of research that show the significant benefits that exercise has for children’s physical health, mental wellbeing, and learning and that physical activity supports children’s focus and concentration in the classroom as well as making them happier, and hopes that the Daily Mile initiative continues to inspire young people to live an active lifestyle.
