First Social Housing in More than a Decade in Raasay

  • Submitted by: Emma Roddick, Highlands and Islands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 21 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13740

That the Parliament celebrates that the Isle of Raasay has obtained its first development of social housing in more than a decade; notes that the new Deer Park development is now occupied by tenants in the first rented affordable homes to be built on the Isle in over 10 years; recognises what it considers to be the increasing demand for affordable housing on the Isle and the importance of ensuring that residents are able to stay in the area as the Scottish Government continues to tackle depopulation; congratulates the local community as this development has been community-led by the Raasay Development Trust, with key funding provided by the Scottish Government’s Rural and Islands Housing Fund, and acknowledges what it sees as the difference that this will have on the community, ensuring that Raasay and those who reside there can continue to thrive.
