Ken McGinley, Nuclear Test Veteran

  • Submitted by: George Adam, Paisley, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 19 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13714

That the Parliament expresses its sadness at the passing of Ken McGinley, a nuclear test veteran who was present at five nuclear bomb tests on Christmas Island in the late 1950s; remembers his lifelong campaign to bring widespread awareness of health issues experienced by himself and other veterans also present at the tests; notes his role in the establishment of the British Nuclear Tests Veterans Association in 1983, and celebrates his legal victories, such as the unanimous decision of all 26 Commissioners of the European Commission of Human Rights, who found that the UK had violated the test veterans’ human rights by denying them access to their medical records and other necessary documents to establish disability pension claims, and expresses its deepest condolences to Mr McGinley’s family, friends and colleagues.
