National Shopmobility Awareness Day

  • Submitted by: George Adam, Paisley, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 30 May 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13388

That the Parliament welcomes the inaugural National Shopmobility Awareness Day on 7 June 2024, which aims to raise the public profile of local Shopmobility centres across Scotland and the UK, encouraging people with a mobility challenge to take advantage of them; recognises what it sees as the impact that local Shopmobility schemes have within their communities, providing low-cost, and in some cases free, hire of mobility equipment to enable those who have difficulty with mobility to access cultural, social and economic activities within their communities; considers that this brings a greater sense of freedom and independence to those who would normally be housebound and unable to access such services, and congratulates Shopmobility Renfrewshire for expanding their services to include mobility equipment hire, repair of such equipment, organising and supporting social inclusion events and advocating on behalf of those with mobility issues.
