River Don Pollution

  • Submitted by: Jackie Dunbar, Aberdeen Donside, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 21 May 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13290

That the Parliament expresses its concern following the reported announcement from Scottish Water that significant quantities of waste are potentially being dumped into the sewage network around the River Don; understands that the waste water treatment works that serve Kemnay, Oldmeldurm and Daviot have, on several occasions, experienced an unexplained influx of chemicals, requiring local teams to intervene and stabilise the water treatment process in order to prevent further environmental damage; further understands that, due to the scale of the issue, Scottish Water claims that the polluter may be using a tanker to discharge into the sewer network, and has therefore asked locals to remain vigilant, and to report any suspected dumping to Scottish Water; commends those who have worked to mitigate the environmental impact of pollution, and encourages the public to engage with Scottish Water to protect Scotland's natural environment.
