  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.

  • Motion reference: S6M-13193

That the Parliament celebrates the success of the East Kilbride Pickleball Community; understands that the group was established in 2022 and now has over 90 members; applauds the group for hosting a hybrid doubles session in February 2024 to encourage wheelchair users to take up pickleball; understands that this session was the result of collaboration between East Kilbride club coach, Mike Duncan, and the Scottish Masters champion, Terry Smith, who previously worked together to promote wheelchair pickleball by holding sessions at the spinal rehabilitation unit at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital; considers that pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world; understands that Pickleball Scotland is helping local groups, like East Kilbride Pickleball Community, to grow and thrive; hopes that East Kilbride Pickleball Community continues its efforts to promote the sport, and wishes it every success in the future.
