  • Submitted by: Ross Greer, West Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 07 May 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13091.2
  • Current status: Taken in the Chamber on Wednesday, 08 May 2024

As an amendment to motion S6M-13091 in the name of Liam Kerr (Supporting Scotland’s Colleges), leave out from "in response" to end and insert "; believes that colleges have a critical role to play in building a fairer, greener Scotland, including in delivering on key priorities such as reaching net zero emissions and tackling child poverty; is concerned by the chronic problems in industrial relations in the college sector over the last decade; calls, therefore, on the Scottish Government to further support college staff by applying a wider range of fair work conditions to college funding and by adopting more robust mechanisms for ensuring that local fair work policies, agreed to by management and unions, are delivered on; welcomes the requirement that college boards must now include at least two trade union representatives; believes that college governance requires further strengthening and that consideration should be given to reserved places on boards for local councillors; further believes that the pay policy for chief executives, as set out in the Scottish Public Sector Pay Strategy, should apply to the principals of public colleges, and calls on the Scottish Government to publish before the summer recess its response to the recommendations made in the Strathesk Resolutions report on resetting industrial relations in the college sector and to reinstate the £26 million of transformation funding initially allocated but not delivered to the college sector in the 2023-24 budget."
