Scottish Enterprise Records Highest Number of Academic Spin Outs

That the Parliament commends Scottish Enterprise for supporting the highest ever number of academic spin-outs through its High Growth Spinout Program in the 2022-23 financial year; understands that, in May 2023, Scottish Enterprise was named the UK’s top investor in spin-outs by number of deals in the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Spotlight on Spinouts report; further understands that Scottish Enterprise, through its spin-out programme, supports research teams to commercialise their innovative ideas and projects, transforming them into successful businesses; believes that this facilitates the creation of homegrown high-value jobs and the development of new products and services for domestic and international markets, generating significant economic impact for Scotland, and appreciates that, in the financial year 2022-23, Scottish Enterprise has supported projects from 33 research teams from institutions including the universities of Heriot-Watt, Strathclyde, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh Napier, the West of Scotland and the James Hutton Institute.
