  • Submitted by: Jeremy Balfour, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 02 November 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-10973

That the Parliament commends LifeCare Edinburgh for its work in supporting local older people and preventing loneliness and isolation this winter by raising vital funds and awareness through the “Winter Warmer” appeal; understands that the charity has a proud 80-year history, and supports over 1,000 older people and their carers to thrive at home and be active in the community; understands that enquiries about its services from people on a low income have increased by 67% through the cost of living crisis; acknowledges that the winter months can be extremely difficult for older people and believes that increasing costs for food and fuel could be devastating for many, and considers that LifeCare’s professional and high quality services, including registered outreach care in the community, three registered day clubs, help at home, meals on wheels, dedicated support for unpaid carers, dementia-friendly hairdressing, companionship, and community engagement activities are a vital lifeline for older people and their carers across Edinburgh, throughout the winter months and beyond.
