  • Submitted by: Maggie Chapman, North East Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 18 September 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-10450

That the Parliament congratulates the Save the Belmont Cinema campaign on its success in securing the much-loved Belmont Cinema in Aberdeen for the community and future generations; believes that the Aberdeen City Council Finance and Resources Committee decision to appoint Belmont Community Cinema Ltd as the preferred operator for the Belmont Cinema is an important sign of confidence in the community campaign group and the cinema’s continued future; further believes that, by focusing on film, education, community and customer experience, Belmont Community Cinema Ltd can deliver a truly independent, cultural cinema operated by and for the people of Aberdeen, for the benefit of every resident across the city; recognises what it sees as the integral role of its strategic partnership with Station House Media Unit, which, it understands, will lead on and deliver an exciting education and filmmaking programme to help nurture and develop the next generation of filmmakers, and urges all parties to champion a secure and sustainable future for the Belmont Cinema.
