Orkney Islands Council Cancer Challenge

  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 06 September 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05827

That the Parliament congratulates the Orkney Islands Council Cancer Challenge, which has raised over £16,000 for Cancer Research UK; understands that the fundraiser saw around 140 council employees walk, run and cycle 373km, the length of priority 1 roads in Orkney, between June and August 2022; notes that the fundraiser was expanded to include a prize draw, which was supported by around 50 local businesses; recognises that the fundraiser was organised by OIC employee, Inga Antonio, following the news that her sister was diagnosed with cancer, with heroic support from colleagues, Lorraine Stout and Al Homes; commends Inga, Lorraine, Al and all those who took part in the outstanding effort, which raised more than treble the original target of £5,000, and thanks the wider Orkney public for their enormous generosity towards this worthy cause.
