That the Parliament delights that Bishopbriggs Academy S6 pupil, Ciara McCarthy, who it understands is an activist for young people with disabilities, has been nominated for a Positive Role Model Award for Disability at the National Diversity Awards; understands that the negative experiences she previously encountered in school as someone with cerebral palsy, profound hearing loss and autism, prompted her to start campaigning to raise awareness of disabilities in mainstream education; further understands that Ciara is a member of the Scottish Changemaker Team of the National Deaf Children's Society in Scotland; notes that in 2021 she led the formation of the The Inclusivists, which is a peer-led local group in East Dunbartonshire whose aim is to increase knowledge and awareness of equality issues in education in order to challenge stereotypes; wholeheartedly thanks all those who have supported Ciara to become such a powerful voice including her family, friends and school community; celebrates all the work of Ciara and her fellow members of The Inclusivists to increase inclusion and tackle discrimination; congratulates Ciara on her nomination, and sends her encouragement to continue using her lived experience, time and energies in such a committed and impactful way.
