UKRI Policy Internship Scheme

Through the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Policy Internships Scheme, doctoral students experience work in an influential policy organisation.

Placements are available across all the UK parliamentary offices. This includes the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe).

SPICe intern roles and responsibilities

UKRI interns will work with SPICe for 3 months. They'll focus on providing at least one proactive Research Briefing. They’ll also get involved in the day-to-day work of the Parliament. This includes contributing to briefings for committees and helping to answer enquiries from MSPs.

Interns will get first-hand experience of working in a political environment. They’ll develop a good knowledge of parliamentary scrutiny processes.

Funding

SPICe accepts applicants from the following Research Councils:

  • Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
  • Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
  • Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
