Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

To ask the Scottish Government what (a) assessment it is undertaking and (b) mitigations it is planning regarding the potential impact on affordable housing supply, including through reduced numbers of section 75 agreements and availability of off-the-shelf properties, as a result of any downturn in private sector housebuilding, in light of reports from Barratt Homes that it is no longer buying land and that Bellway's activity in the land market is "markedly lower".

The Scottish Government works closely with local partners to monitor delivery of the affordable housing programme on the ground and to overcome delivery issues where they may arise.

We will continue to work with local authorities in ensuring there is an effective pipeline of potential projects, through their annual Strategic Housing Investment Plans, which look five years ahead. We will also consider options for off the shelf purchases where local authorities identify these as a priority.

The potential impact on affordable housing supply of developer contributions, including through Section 75 agreements, is also reviewed regularly.

To ask the Scottish Government how many people have (a) left the waiting list for, (b) cancelled and (c) declined elective surgery in NHS Lanarkshire in each month since May 2021, broken down by procedure.

In response to part a)

Public Health Scotland publishes quarterly statistics relating to the number of waiting list removals, by specialty and health board of treatment. These data include all waiting list removals under reasons such as ‘transferred’ and ‘referred back to GP’. The latest statistics are published up to 30 September 2022, and for inpatients and day cases can be found using the link below, under Table 2.4:

In response to part b)

Public Health Scotland publishes monthly statistics relating to the number of cancelled planned operations at health board and hospital level, a summary of which is available the following link:

The latest statistics published cover the period up to 31 December 2022 and the number of planned operations that were cancelled by patients each month from May 2021 onwards can be found within the tab ‘Publication table’ in the link below:

These statistics are sourced from local theatre systems and only includes cancellations that were cancelled the day before, or on the day the patient was due to be treated. PHS does not collect information on cancellations that occur prior to this.
