To ask the Scottish Government what it is doing to meet the specific rights and needs of LGBT refugees and asylum seekers, particularly regarding inclusive health services, including those for mental health that are delivered through the public or third sector.

The Scottish Government recognises that people seeking safety on the basis of their LGBTI identity can face particular challenges within the asylum process and as refugees. We are supporting LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers through the New Scots refugee integration strategy, which aims to ensure equal access for all refugees and asylum seekers. We are working with partners to ensure that the issues faced by refugees and people claiming asylum on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity are understood, and that they are able to participate in society and access support services.

From 2016-20, the Scottish Government is investing £54 million to help Boards improve access to mental health services and tackle waiting times. Our Programme for Government also sets out a £250 million package of measures to support positive mental health and prevent ill health over five years from 2019-20. This funding underpins the improvement agenda set out in the Programme for Government and in our mental health and suicide prevention strategies which sets out how we can improve prevention and early intervention and ensure better access to mental health services.
