Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

To ask the Scottish Government what proportion of Scottish quota species are being targeted in line with maximum sustainable yield limits.

Based on the latest scientific advice, 78% of our key Scottish stocks that are subject to quota management are being fished sustainably at levels at or below the targets consistent with the principles of maximum sustainable yield.

This figure, based on 18 key Scottish stocks, demonstrates the continuing improvement in our fisheries for this important food source and the efforts of our fishermen to progressively develop more sustainable fishing methods.

To ask the Scottish Government whether it will allocate funding in the 2015-16 budget to its Low Emissions Strategy.

The Scottish Government is in regular dialogue with all UK administrations on air quality matters of mutual interest. The focus of work to develop the forthcoming Low Emissions Strategy, which will be the first Scottish air quality strategy, has been working with a wide range of Scottish stakeholders who can, and do, make a substantive contribution to promoting air quality across Scotland.

The Low Emissions Strategy is designed to support a wide range of partners in promoting air quality, e.g. guidance on low emission zones. One of the purposes of the forthcoming consultation will be to get feedback on that guidance.

The strategy will also highlight the range of actions that can support air quality, not all of which require funding. The Scottish Government will continue to support specific air quality monitoring and action projects. Air quality is a responsibility of local authorities who continue to be able to allocate funding according to local needs and priorities.
