Joint Fisheries Statement - Extension of the Scrutiny Period

Letter from the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Islands, Mairi Gougeon, to the Convener, 10 February 2022

Dear Finlay

Extension of the Joint Fisheries Statement Scrutiny Period

Further to my letter of 17 January 2022, we have had some concerns raised over the length of the scrutiny period for the Joint Fisheries Statement (JFS) and have been exploring this with our colleagues in the other UK administrations.

As the JFS has been developed jointly with the other UK administrations, we have been aiming to synchronise timings with the other UK legislatures. Following the recent developments in Northern Ireland this is no longer appropriate, and we appreciate the Committees’ desire for more time to scrutinise the JFS and engage stakeholders. We are therefore proposing extending the scrutiny period to 12 April 2022, to align with the end of the public consultation on the JFS.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you need further information.
