Rural Affairs and Islands Committee

Subordinate legislation – The Eggs (Amendment) (Scotland) Regulations 2021.

Letter to the Convener from Mairi Gougeon, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Islands, 22 December 2021

Dear Finlay,

Thank you for your question during discussion of the draft Eggs (Amendment) (Scotland) Regulations 2021, on behalf of the Committee for Rural Affairs, Islands and Natural Environment. Please find my answer below.

Are we likely to see more SSIs to allow inspections at the place of destination—rather than at border crossings—for other products?

I can confirm that there are currently no further SSIs in progress or planned to allow inspections at the place of destination rather than at border crossings.

Please note, however, that this remains a complex landscape. I will of course keep the committee updated as developments happen, but you will be aware that some of these developments are not always in our control and we are not always consulted or engaged with meaningfully to allow appropriate and timeous preparation.

I hope that the above satisfies the committee fully, and if I can provide any further information, please feel free to ask.

Yours sincerely,

Mairi Gougeon
