ScotRail came under public ownership on 1 April 2022 when the Scottish Ministers became 'operator of last resort'. In March 2022, the Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee agreed to take evidence from key stakeholders in the rail industry and from the Scottish Government ahead of ScotRail's transfer into public ownership.
Following its initial evidence sessions, the Committee agreed to keep a watching brief on Scotland's railways.
