Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC)

Background

In light of public concern about RAAC in public buildings arising over the summer of 2023, at its meeting on 12 September the Committee agreed to hold a roundtable session on the issue of potentially defective Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) elements in public buildings across Scotland, which may be at risk of sudden, catastrophic failure.

The Committee held a session with key stakeholders as well as the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice on 3 October 2023.

The Committee has continued to follow this subject closely. At its session on 16 April 2024 the Committee focussed on the impact of RAAC on housing rather than in public buildings.

The Committee will continue to pursue this work throughout the session.
