1. Decision on taking business in private:

The Committee agreed to take item 4 in private.


2. Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill:

The Committee took evidence on the Bill at Stage 1 from—

Dr Iain Kennedy, Chair of Scottish Council, BMA Scotland;

Fiona McIntyre, Policy and Practice Lead, Scotland, Royal Pharmaceutical Society;

Colin Poolman, Executive Director, Royal College of Nursing Scotland;

Dr Chris Provan, Chair, Royal College of General Practitioners Scotland;

and then from—

Amy Dalrymple, Associate Director of Policy and Public Affairs, Marie Curie Scotland;

Mark Hazelwood, Chief Executive, Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care;

Dr Sarah Mills, Lecturer in Academic General Practice, University of St Andrews;

Rami Okasha, Chief Executive Officer, Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

Clare Haughey declared an interest as currently registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and as holding a bank nurse contract with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Emma Harper declared an interest as a registered nurse.

Dr Sandesh Gulhane declared an interest as a practising NHS GP and as chair of the Medical Advisory Group set up to advise and inform the member in charge of the Bill in advance of its introduction.

Elena Whitham declared an interest as a member of Humanist Society Scotland.


3. Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill (In Private):

The Committee considered the evidence it heard earlier under agenda item 2.


4. Work programme (In Private):

The Committee considered its future work programme.

The Committee agreed to invite the Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport to give evidence on the National Care Service (Scotland) Bill at its meeting on 26 November 2024.

The Committee agreed to invite the Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health to give evidence on subordinate legislation on burial law at its meeting on 10 December.

The Committee agreed to invite the Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health to provide an update on dentistry in Scotland at its meeting on 10 December.

The Committee agreed to invite the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care to give evidence on the Scottish Budget for 2025-26 at its meeting on 17 December 2024.

Subject to the lodging of the legislative consent memorandum (LCM), the Committee agreed to invite the Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health to give evidence on the Tobacco and Vapes Bill LCM at its meeting on 17 December 2024.
