1 Declaration of interests: 

Members of the Committee were invited to declare any relevant interests. The following interests were declared— 

Dr Sandesh Gulhane as a registered doctor and a member of the British 

Medical Association, the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Royal College of Surgeons, the Medical and Dental Defence Union Scotland and having undertaken media appearances. 

Emma Harper as a registered nurse and a member of NHS Dumfries & Galloway’s vaccination team. 

Paul O’Kane as a member of East Renfrewshire Council and a member of GMB Union. 

Evelyn Tweed as a member of Stirling Council and a member of GMB Union. 


2 Choice of Convener:

The Committee chose Gillian Martin as its Convener. 


3 Choice of Deputy Convener:

The Committee chose Paul O'Kane as its Deputy Convener.


4 Decision on taking business in private:

The Committee agreed to take item 6 in private.


5 Legacy Paper:

The Committee noted the Session 5 Health and Sport Committee Legacy Paper and agreed to consider it as part of its future work programme discussions.


6 Work programme:

The Committee considered its approach to developing its work programme and agreed to hold a business planning day.  

The Committee agreed to write to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care on his priorities and to invite him and the Minister for Drugs Policy to give evidence at a future meeting. The Committee also agreed to write to the Scottish Government in connection with its forthcoming bill to reimburse the cost of private mesh removal surgery carried out in the past.  

Stephanie Callaghan declared an interest as a member of South Lanarkshire.
