Members of the Committee were invited to declare any relevant interests. The following interests were declared—
James Dornan declared no relevant interests.
Stephanie Callaghan declared an interest as she is a Councillor for the Hamilton North and East ward in South Lanarkshire.
Bob Doris declared that he had been a teacher and had previously been registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and a member of the Educational Institute of Scotland.
Fergus Ewing had no relevant interest to declare but put on the record that he is on the roll of Solicitors held by the Law Society of Scotland, although he is not a practising Solicitor.
Ross Greer had no relevant interest to declare but put on the record that he is a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme for the purposes of youth work with the Church of Scotland.
Stephen Kerr had no relevant interest to declare but put on the record that members of his family were employed in the teaching profession.
Michael Marra declared an interest as a Councillor for the Dundee Lochee ward.
Oliver Mundell had no relevant interests to declare.
Kaukab Stewart declared that she had been a teacher, is still registered with the GTCS and was previously a member of the NASUWT. She is also a member of the PVG scheme.
Beatrice Wishart had no relevant interests to declare.
The Committee chose Stephen Kerr MSP as its Convener.
The Committee chose Kaukab Stewart MSP as its Deputy Convener.
The Committee agreed to take item 6 in private.
The Committee thanked the Session 5 Education and Skills Committee for its Legacy Paper, noted its contents and agreed to consider the Legacy Paper as part of the Committee’s work programme discussion.
The Committee considered and agreed its approach to developing its work programme.
