Essay Mills letter to Scottish Government
Letter from the Convener to the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills
Dear Cabinet Secretary,
I am writing in respect of correspondence received from Paul Davies MS, Chair of the Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee at the Welsh Parliament, regarding the issue of essay mills. I enclose a copy of this letter below.
The UK Government intends to add a ban on ‘essay mills’ in England to the Post-16 Education and Skills Bill currently under consideration at Westminster. It is the view of the Welsh Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee that Welsh Ministers should work with the UK Government to extend the proposed ban on essay mills to also cover Wales.
The Committee agreed to write to you to highlight this issue, and the approach being proposed by the Welsh Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee. The Committee would welcome an update on what measures the Scottish Government is taking to address the issue of ‘essay mills’ and specifically with regard to extending the proposed ban on ‘essay mills’ via the LCM process.
Yours sincerely
Stephen Kerr MSP
Convener
