COVID-19 Recovery Committee

COVID 19 Business Funding

Letter to Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for COVID Recovery, Scottish Government to the Convener on 23 December 2021

Dear John,

The Committee would like to seek clarification from the Scottish Government on the £375 million of funding that was highlighted by the First Minister in her statement on 21 December 2021.

The Committee would be grateful for more information on the following–

  • a break-down of the routes/schemes by which funding is planned to be distributed (for example the December and January Business Top Up);
  • a break-down of the initial allocations by economic sector (for example hospitality, food and drink supply chain, weddings, tourism, night clubs, culture, events, and other sectors);
  • a rolling break-down of the actual funding provided by sector (the first tranche of information in time for the committee’s meeting on 7 January);

  • clarification on whether a break-down of allocations to individual businesses will be available.

The Committee also notes that businesses will want to know whether they are eligible for funding in this fast-moving situation. The Committee therefore urges the Scottish Government to clarify the eligibility criteria and to distribute the funding as soon as possible.

The Committee would appreciate for an update on these matters in time for its evidence session with you on 7 January 2021 if possible.

Yours sincerely,

Siobhian Brown MSP
